1st focus child

Cognitive – Remembers and connects experiences 

Tim was playing with play dough and made a car. He began driving it and said “teacher look this is my home and this is my school, I go from home to school everyday”

 

Math – Counts, connects numerals with quantities, measures objects


Tim is measuring how tall he is using connecting chains. He begins counting “1, 2, 3..” he is 33 chains tall.

Literacy – Identifies and names letters, writes to convey ideas and information
Tim practices writing his name, letters, and familiar words in sand.
This activity helps Tim practice his writing and prepare him as he goes into kindergarten. He writes words that he is most familiar with, animals and writing his or his peers names. He repeats the letters as he is writing, as well as the names.
Dramatic play – engages in sociodramatic play, explores drama through actions and language

Tim dressed up as a police officer while playing in the dramatic play. He says look teacher “i am a police officer”.
Interacting and dressing up as different job roles is beneficial for Tim because he learns about the different roles in communities and is aware of what they do and when the right moment for their services are required. Tim was asked what he wanted to be when he grew up and he said a police officer because i want to help people.
Interacts with peers, Engages in conversation
Tim and his friend are interacting with each other, having a conversation while building legos together.
Tim is learning to engage in conversations with his peers and interact with one another.

2nd focus child

cognitive – engages in sociodramatic play, recognizes and recalls 
 
Sarah was playing in the kitchen and began describing what she was doing, “I am making food” “this pan is for the eggs, this one is for the beans, etc.” in Spanish.
 

Cognitive – recalls and make connections
 
Playing with magnet tiles and starts building a house, she says “it is just like mine”
 


language –
Brushing the monkeys teeth, and she says “aw open up”, “ew it dirty”. Cleaning the tongue too. She puts her finger inside the mouth and shuts it and says “ouch he bite me”
Language – Engages in conversation, uses social rules of language
 
During breakfast and lunch Sarah engages in conversation with the teacher and begins teaching him what specific objects or foods are in Spanish. She held up her spoon and said “teacher look this is “cuchara” in Spanish and she continued to do that with the food as well.

3rd focus child

Mathematics – counts and connects numerals with their quanitities
 
I was playing with John at the science table and measuring some cubes, I took each piece apart and started connecting one at a time. He started counting 1 to 10 as I attached each cube individually.
 

John is practicing tracing letters and begin saying and writing other letters from the alphabet. He writes the letter Z and says “this is z”

John is creating spin art using the spin bowl, he pulls very hardly.

Literacy – identifies and names letters
John is writing upper and lower case letters, while he writes he pronounce each letter. He refers and points to the alphabet when needed.

John is writing a thank you letter for to the firefighters who came to visit the classroom and show us their equipment and firetrucks. He drew himself with a truck.
